Plan a trip to New Zealand
- Starting from Auckland head north. If you only have a day drive to
Warkworth and visit the wineries of Matakana and the Marine Reserve at Goat
Island, Leigh.
- If you have more time, allow a few days and drive north to Russell or
Paihia. See the Bay of Islands and understand why fisherman Zane Grey loved
this area.
- Head back to Auckland and drive south ( roughly 3 hours to Taupo or
Rotorua. Rotorua is where you will find geysers and a lot of Maori culture. In
Taupo see Huka Falls. Further on from Taupo is National Park where one can ski
in winter or in summer walk the Tongariro Crossing.
- Drive east and you’ll come to the Hawkes Bay where many of New Zealand’s
famous wines are made. You’ll find the famous Cape Kidnappers gold course here
as well as a bird sanctuary.
- If you have another week a trip to the South Island will stun you. If you
liked the scenery in Lord of the Rings see it for yourself in the South
Island. Head north from Christchurch and squeeze in a boat trip to see the
whales at Kaikoura. Head south from Christchurch and head for Wanaka,
Queenstown and see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
- From Queenstown you can drive or bus to Milford Sound and see the
incredible fiords.
